Sajith urges unity to protect Sambuddha Sasana and all cultures

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa states that as a practical Buddhist, he has always carried out great service for the advancement of the Sambuddha Sasana, including the construction of Sunday school buildings and Pagodas.

He said this while joining the Sarvajna Relic exhibition held at the Lunugamvehera Punchi Appu Jadura Sri Ashwattharama Purana Maha Viharaya.

The Opposition Leader stated that what our country needs is not demonstrative Buddhism, and many people use religion to build a political image.

He added that the Buddha Sasana does not need such Buddhism but Buddhists who protect religion, and that the Sambuddha Sasana cannot be protected by a Buddhism limited only to cameras and social media.

Furthermore, he mentioned that protecting the Sambuddha Sasana is the responsibility of everyone, and it is even stated in the supreme law of the Constitution.

He noted that while protecting, safeguarding, and promoting the Sambuddha Sasana to protect religion, this system should also operate in a manner that protects other religions and cultures in our country, and 22 million people should unite regardless of race, religion, caste, class, or party differences.

The Opposition Leader expressed that having faced 5 tragedies over the past 7 years, we could now experience severe climatic and weather changes under the El Niño and La Niña conditions, and what happened in Nepal recently is the best example of this.

The Opposition Leader further stated that there is currently a drought in one part of the country, which could create numerous problems such as crop damage, food security issues, and the human-elephant conflict.
