A 32-year-old man surrendered to the Nuwara Eliya Police yesterday (29) after allegedly striking his wife on the head with an axe and killing her following an escalating domestic dispute.
The suspect reportedly informed police that he had attacked his wife's head with an axe during a family dispute before coming to the police station. Hospital sources stated that the severely injured woman died while being rushed to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital by local residents.
The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Chithra Devi, a resident of Boralanda Vinayagapuram in the Nuwara Eliya police area. Her body has been placed at the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court today (30). Officers of the Crime Investigation Bureau of the Nuwara Eliya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
