Deliberations commence on 22A petitions in Supreme Court

Consideration of petitions filed challenging the 22nd Constitutional Amendment bill presented to Parliament by the government commenced before the Supreme Court.

The hearing proceeds before a five-judge Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Achala Wengappuli, Arjuna Obeyesekere, Sampath Abeykoon, and Gihan Kulatunga.

A total of 67 petitions came before the court challenging the proposed constitutional bill, while 05 petitions were submitted challenging the Judicature Amendment Bill.
