Community Corrections act to be amended

The Cabinet has approved a proposal presented by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to publish the Community Based Corrections (Amendment) Bill in the Government Gazette, before hauling it over to Parliament for final approval.

This legislative move targets the Community Based Corrections Act Number 46 of 1999, updating its provisions with the hope of finally allowing law enforcement to deal more effectively with repeat offenders. The initial nod for this much-needed update was actually granted during a Cabinet meeting on the 7th of April 2025.

In accordance with that earlier directive, the bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman has now successfully secured clearance from the Attorney General.
