Attorney Muditha R. Lokumudali announced that Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa is set to present himself before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption this Friday, September 4.
The legal representative noted that the anti-corruption body issued a formal written directive commanding his client's attendance at nine o'clock in the morning on that day.
The parliamentarian has confirmed his willingness to obey the order and show up at the commission offices as instructed.
Initial notification regarding Friday's appearance date was delivered to Rajapaksa on Monday of last week.
In response to the original summons, Rajapaksa initially indicated to investigators that he could attend on the following day.
Subsequently, attorney Lokumudali dispatched a formal letter requesting a postponement of the appointment until the 25th of the month or a later date.
According to the legal counsel, the Bribery Commission turned down this rescheduling appeal and transmitted a WhatsApp message instructing Rajapaksa to adhere to the initial Friday schedule.
Lokumudali confirmed that the politician has been summoned to facilitate ongoing inquiries into suspected corruption surrounding the procurement of wide-body aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
