An atmospheric condition favourable for evening thundershowers is developing in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces over the next few days, starting today (03). The Department of Meteorology announced this in a statement.
Accordingly, several spells of showers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts after 2.00 pm.
The Department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, with the apparent southward movement of the sun, it will be directly overhead over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 28 August to 07 September.
The sun will be directly overhead today at 12:09 pm over Madampe, Thorayaya, Thotagamuwa, Rattota and Kaluwanchikudy.
