Main suspect in Chinese national’s murder arrested in Port City

Police arrested the main suspect, a Chinese national who wore a wig as a disguise, inside the Colombo Port City yesterday (04) after 43 days over the kidnapping of a Chinese national in a car, his murder, and fleeing after covering the body with laterite stones, the Colombo Crimes Division stated.

Four other Chinese nationals involved in this crime entered police custody previously.

A team of officers from the Karadana Police Post belonging to the Eheliyagoda Police Station found a human body on 23 July inside a dilapidated house on a rambutan-cultivated land situated towards Getahetta from the police post.

At that time, laterite stones covered the body, and officers located a suspicious luxury car on the same day on the road near the Nugadanda Kovil.

Following initial investigations revealing this to be the murder of a Chinese national, further investigations disclosed that the deceased was a Chinese national kidnapped inside the Colombo Port City.

Authorities arrested two suspicious Chinese nationals at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport whilst they tried to travel abroad during the days when this crime occurred on 23 July, and arrested the other two Chinese nationals on the 30th of last month while they hid inside a lodge in the Sigiriya area after fleeing the Colombo area following the incident.

Authorities plan to present the 54-year-old Chinese suspect before court to obtain a detention order.
