Written submissions regarding the petitions filed challenging the Anti-Corruption Amendment Bill can be filed before 12:00 noon today (07).
The confidential determination on the constitutionality of the bill will be forwarded to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Speaker Dr Jagath Wickramaratne, the Supreme Court announced recently upon concluding the hearing.
Fifteen petitions were filed challenging the bill and were examined over two days before a three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Shiran Gooneratne, Mahinda Samayawardhena, and Sampath Wijeratne.
Judicial power is curtailed and fundamental human rights are violated through this amended bill, the petitions stated.
Accordingly, the petitioners requested a ruling that the bill must be approved by a referendum.
