Visiting Indian Defence Minister meets Opposition Leader

Visiting Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has held talks with Sri Lanka’s Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa in Colombo during a three-day official visit to the island. The discussion allowed both figures to address areas of shared interest and deliberate on the wider partnership between the two nations. Marks of goodwill were also exchanged between Singh and Premadasa, signifying the enduring bond between the neighbouring countries.

Scheduled from 8 to 10 September, Singh’s visit focuses on boosting strategic and defence cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. The agenda features key discussions with Sri Lankan political and military leadership.

Prior to this, Singh conferred with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, where both parties reiterated their pledge to deepen bilateral ties. The meeting was characterized by Singh as warm and extremely productive.

Singh stated that India and Sri Lanka, acting as civilisational twins, close neighbours and maritime partners, will sustain joint efforts to promote public welfare, regional stability, security, peace and prosperity.
