New Chinese Ambassador meets Mahinda Rajapaksa

A courteous meeting was held this morning at his Colombo residence between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the newly appointed Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka, Wei Huaxiang.

Rajapaksa extended his congratulations to the Ambassador, who officially assumed duties following the presentation of his credentials on 25 August.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, was also present at the occasion.

During the meeting, the former President expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the warm gesture of gifting a book containing traditional Chinese paintings, which offers a deeper understanding of Chinese civilisation.

Reflecting on the journey of friendship and strategic partnership shared by both nations, Rajapaksa thanked the Chinese state while highlighting how China has warmly embraced Sri Lankan culture and its people.
