An International Monetary Fund staff mission is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today for discussions with authorities on the country's economic reform programme and broader financial outlook.
The delegation, led by Sri Lanka Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, will remain in the country until September 23, to conduct the combined 7th Review under the Extended Fund Facility arrangement, and the 2026 Article IV Consultation.
The outcome of the discussions is considered crucial for Sri Lanka, as successful completion of the review would allow the country to maintain access to international financing.
During the mission, IMF officials are expected to assess Sri Lanka's progress on structural reforms, while reviewing developments in economic growth, revenue mobilisation and foreign-exchange reserves.
Although Sri Lanka has made steady progress following its severe economic crisis, experts warn that risks remain, particularly from external market shocks, and the need to maintain the momentum of reforms.
The IMF team is expected to communicate its findings at the conclusion of the mission on September 23.
