87 unauthorised structures were identified along the stretch from Marine Drive in Bambalapitiya to the Wasala Canal in Wellawatte, Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi stated.
Speaking to local media, the minister mentioned that action will be taken to remove these unauthorised structures within the month.
Five specific zones requiring protection and conservation measures were identified as a result of unauthorised construction.
According to the minister, the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management holds responsibility for overseeing the protection of the coastline along Marine Drive.
