President's Fund launches programme to provide free spectacles and hearing aids for university students

The initial phase of a programme organised by the President’s Fund to distribute free spectacles and hearing aids to university students was held yesterday (19) at the Rajarata University premises.

Free eye examinations and the distribution of required lenses were conducted for students throughout the day. Implemented with the support of the private sector, spectacle frames donated to the President's Fund are scheduled to be provided free of charge to school children, university students, technical college students, and low-income citizens.

Speaking at the occasion, Senior Additional Secretary to the President and Secretary to the President's Fund Roshan Gamage stated that providing facilities for all children in the country to pursue their education without hindrance is the primary expectation of the President and the government.

He added that steps will be taken to roll out the initiative across all universities in the future.

Roshan Gamage further highlighted that efforts are underway to extend the benefits of the President's Fund to all deserving individuals and children, noting that sound management has strengthened the fund by 50% over the past two years. He also expressed his gratitude to all sponsors and stakeholders who contributed to the programme.

Senior Assistant Registrar of Rajarata University D. M. Jayakody and representatives from sponsoring organisations were among those present at the event.
