The decision on 22A is brought to Parliament by the Speaker

Speaker Dr Jagath Wickramaratne is scheduled to present the Supreme Court’s determination on the proposed 22nd Constitutional Amendment to Parliament today (22).

The Speaker’s Office confirmed that the Supreme Court handed over its determination to the Speaker yesterday.

The Speaker is expected to formally inform Parliament of the decision during today’s sitting.

Meanwhile, the government has decided not to proceed with the second reading debate of the Institute of Chartered Media Professionals Bill in Parliament.

The debate had been scheduled for tomorrow from 11.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

However, the Parliamentary Business Committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Dr Rizvie Salih, decided to postpone the debate indefinitely following objections raised by several media organisations.

The Export Agriculture Promotion Bill will instead be taken up for debate tomorrow, while regulations under the Petroleum Resources Act are scheduled to be debated today.

Meanwhile, a Rs. 17.2 billion supplementary estimate aimed at providing financial relief to the public in relation to electricity bills will be presented to Parliament today.
