CHOGM to be held in Sri Lanka - No change in decision

Commonwealth General Secretary Kamalesh Sharma confirms that there is no change in the decision to hold the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka.

He made this statement while speaking at a media briefing held in the Commonwealth Secretary General’s office in London yesterday.

Meanwhile, minister of external affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris met with Kamalesh Sharma yesterday in London and held discussions regarding the organizing of CHOGM.

Meanwhile another protest took place in front of the Commonwealth Secretary General’s office in London against the decision to allow Sri Lanka to host CHOGM.

Meanwhile, The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group held its thirty-ninth meeting in London today but Sri Lanka was not on the main agenda.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Dipu Moni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

At the meeting CMAG welcomed the recent adoption by Heads of Government, and signature by The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, of the Charter of the Commonwealth, encapsulating the core values and principles of the Commonwealth.
