Siyapatha Finance removes a tonne of plastic in Sri Pada cleanup

Nearly a tonne of polythene and plastic waste was collected within a single day during the '2026 Sri Pada Cleaning Project' organised by Siyapatha Finance PLC.

The initiative coincided with the company’s 21st anniversary and World Environment Day celebrations. Adopting a combined approach of corrective and preventive measures, the project aimed to raise public awareness and encourage visitors to practice proper waste management on the holy grounds.

Sri Pada, the third largest peak wilderness sanctuary in Sri Lanka, hosts roughly 8 percent of the country’s indigenous flora and fauna alongside numerous endangered species. Declared a Wildlife Nature Reserve in 1940 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, the sanctuary spans three distinct ecological zones and feeds major rivers including the Kelani, Kalu, and Walawe. However, growing annual visitor numbers present an ongoing threat to its ecosystem through pollution.

Over 50 staff members of Siyapatha Finance PLC, led by senior management and the Chief Executive Officer, executed the collaborative effort. The project took place under the guidance of Sri Pada Chief Incumbent Most Venerable Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thera, alongside support from the Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, the Wildlife Conservation Department, and Nallathanniya Police.

Recognising that long-term corporate success remains inherently entwined with environmental prosperity proved a massive eye-opener in the formative days of the company's journey, Siyapatha Finance PLC Chief Executive Officer Mathisha Hewavitharana stated. He expressed gratitude to everyone who rendered time and support to bring the event to fruition.

Launched in 2024 under the 'Siyapathen Mihikathata Green Initiative,' the annual cleaning project serves as a key pillar in the company’s corporate social responsibility strategy focused on environmental preservation.
