MrBeast has become the first individual creator to reach 500 million subscribers on YouTube, extending his lead as the platform’s most-subscribed channel.
The milestone arrives more than a decade after Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson began uploading videos to YouTube and years after he cemented himself as the site’s biggest creator through increasingly ambitious challenges, giveaways, and large-scale productions.
MrBeast says subscriber milestones matter less than making great videos
Speaking to Dexerto ahead of the milestone, Donaldson said reaching 500 million subscribers wasn’t something he spends much time thinking about despite the achievement.
“The thing is, these metrics, whether it’s views or subscribers, I have more than I could have ever imagined I would have as a younger kid,” he said.
“Honestly, I just don’t think about that kind of stuff that much. I more just try to focus on making the best videos possible and think of the viewers watching it. I’m incredibly grateful that people, after all these years, still watch the content, and that we are still able to grow.”
Donaldson said the specific number attached to his channel is no longer what motivates him, instead pointing to the audience that continues to support his videos.
“Whether it’s 500 million, or 5 million, or five thousand, I think it doesn’t really matter as much to me anymore. What matters is that I’m making videos that people love,” he said.
“I don’t know if that’s a bad answer to the question but obviously, if any of the people who watch my videos see this, I am unfathomably grateful.”
The YouTube star also credited his audience for making both his content and philanthropic efforts possible.
“I love the life I live and it’s obviously because of you guys watching. If you didn’t watch, I wouldn’t be able to do the crazy spectacles and experiments. I wouldn’t be able to help the people I help. I owe it all to you guys.”
