Even toys aren’t exempt from being replaced by technology.
Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” opening in theaters June 19, is the latest instalment in the beloved animated franchise that follows a group of toys, led by cowboy Woody (Tom Hanks) and space ranger Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen).
Following 2019’s “Toy Story 4,” the new film sees the gang face off against a huge challenge: technology. The newly introduced character of Lilypad, a frog-shaped smart tablet, throws playtime for a loop when the toys’ owner, Bonnie, begins to favor the screen over her boring toys. Woody, Buzz and their friends must rally to preserve both Bonnie’s childhood and their places in her life.
The film’s voice cast brings together performers from across film, television and comedy to add a layer of warmth and personality to the nostalgic universe. From Academy Award winning actors to musical superstars, each character adds an irreplaceable element to the film and the fight to prove toys are still worth playing with.
Hanks reunites with much of the original voice cast of “Toy Story,” most of whom onboarded the franchise in 1995 with the first film’s debut. Returning cast members include Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Tony Hale as Forky and many more. Newcomers include Greta Lee as Lilypad, Bad Bunny as Pizza with Sunglasses and Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, amongst others.
