'Star Wars' revives 2 stories for next-generation fans

WEBTOON is about to bring more than a dozen fan-favourite titles to a brand-new platform, including two wildly underrated Star Wars stories.

Per a press release from WEBTOON, the hit manga and webcomic platform will continue bringing a host of beloved Disney titles to the platform as part of its ongoing partnership with the House of Mouse. Among those revealed during the Future of Digital Comics: Disney, Marvel, & WEBTOON panel held at this year's D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event were Star Wars: Visions — The Followers of Ankok by critically acclaimed Ultimate X-Men creator Peach Momoko and Star Wars: Visions — The Ronin and the Droid by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki.

Marvel Comics' Best Star Wars: Visions Stories are Officially Headed to Webtoon

Peach Momoko's Star Wars: Visions — The Followers of Ankok was originally released in 2024 as Star Wars: Visions — Peach Momoko, much to readers' delight. The one-shot introduced a whole new aspect of the Dark Side, one twisted and corrupted into the kind of political power few could ever imagine.

The official solicited synopsis for Star Wars: Visions — The Followers of Ankok from Marvel Comics reads, "Centuries after the death of a great dark Sith Lord, a cult has grown, worshipping this Sith Lord and the Dark Side. Ankok believes she is the successor to the Legacy of the Sith with her Dark Side powers! But is she truly in tune with the Force? Or is she just exploiting the people in her village? Kako and Gel are about to come face-to-face with the truth... even if it kills them!"

Takashi Okazaki's Star Wars: Visions comic hit stores in 2025 and continued the story the legendary creator began with the episode "The Duel" from the Star Wars: Visions animated series. Per the official synopsis for Star Wars: Visions — The Ronin and the Droid, "We know the Ronin as a fearsome Sith slayer, but who was he before? Discover the early days of the fan-favorite character!"

The ongoing collaboration between Disney and WEBTOON has brought numerous hit titles to the fan-favorite vertical-scrolling platform, including previous Star Wars comics. In March, Star Wars: Darth Maul — Black, White & Red was given the WEBTOON treatment, putting the overtly brutal anthology title in the hands of yet another massive audience.

When the Disney and WEBTOON partnership was announced in 2025, WEBTOON Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Yongsoo Kim stated, "This is just the start! Together, we're bringing this legendary storytelling to a new generation of mobile-native comic fans, while giving existing fans a new way to experience series and characters they love."

Outgoing Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski added, "I feel the same way about WEBTOON that I did when experiencing some of those comics for the first time when I was younger — that joy of discovering a new form of storytelling all over again. That's what WEBTOON does — taking what Marvel did traditionally and finding a new way to tell it, adding the most kinetic energy, controlling the pacing so you feel like the Vulture's flying and Spider-Man's falling, the same feelings you get watching a film like Brand New Day."
