Snoop Dogg biopic casts Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur

The cast of Universal’s Snoop Dogg biopic is shaping up, with Camron Jones (“P-Valley,” “Panic”) set to play Tupac Shakur, while Lauren London (“Without Remorse,” “ATL”) will portray Snoop’s late mother, Beverly Tate.

“Outer Banks” alum Jonathan Daviss was previously announced to star as the rap legend in the movie, “Snoop,” directed by Craig Brewer (“Hustle and Flow,” “Dolemite Is My Name,” “Song Sung Blue”). In addition to Daviss, Jones and London, Myles Bullock will also star as Dr. Dre, who discovered Snoop and produced his debut studio album, “Doggystyle,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart in 1993. Tupac and Snoop were labelmates on Death Row Records (you might recall the legendary track “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted”) and remained close friends until the former’s death in 1996. Tate, also known as Beverly Broadus-Green, is credited with giving her son the childhood nickname “Snoopy,” which later inspired his stage name. She died in 2021 at age 70.

Universal is set to release “Snoop,” described as the “definitive biopic of the entertainment mogul and icon,” on Aug. 6, 2027.

Snoop Dogg is producing the project, which will incorporate music from his vast catalogue, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer (“8 Mile”) and Allan Mandelbaum and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. Brewer directs based on his rewrite of Joe Robert Cole’s (co-writer of both “Black Panther” movies) original script.

“Snoop” is the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios. Senior VP of production development Ryan Jones and director of development Tony Ducret will oversee the project for the studio.

Jones is best known for his starring role as Bishop on “Panic,” the young adult drama based on Lauren Oliver’s bestselling novel for Amazon’s Prime Video. Jones, whose filmography also includes roles on “grown-ish,” “The Purge” and “Shameless,” began acting as a child raised in San Ramon, California; he went on to earn a BFA in acting from the University of Southern California, and studied abroad at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, where his training focused on Shakespeare. Jones will next star as Quan in the highly anticipated third season of Starz’s “P-Valley.” He is represented by Clear Talent Group and Venture Entertainment Partners.

London is a Los Angeles native whose career has spanned such projects as Netflix’s “You People,” Amazon’s “Without Remorse,” “ATL” and “Games People Play.” In addition to her acting resume, London is an entrepreneur and activist, focused on mental health awareness. She is represented by WME, FoxRothsChild, Yaneley Arty and 1v1 Entertainment.
