Sri Lanka need 303 more runs to avoid an innings defeat

Sri Lanka were 15 for one in their second innings at the close of play on day three of the first test match against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.


The touring side trail the West Indies first innings total by 303 runs.


West Indies declared their first innings on 626 for nine in reply to Sri Lanka's first innings score of 308.


Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase built a massive sixth-wicket partnership during the West Indies innings, with Amir Jangoo playing a brilliant knock of 233 runs off 373 balls, inclusive of 19 fours and 3 sixes.


Captain Roston Chase scored 194 runs off 324 balls, hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes.


Milan Rathnayake emerged as the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka, claiming 5 for 124 in 35.5 overs, while Asitha Fernando (2/56) and Sonal Dinusha (2/234) took two wickets each.


Sri Lanka lost a wicket before the end of the third day after starting their second innings with the challenge of chasing down a massive deficit.


Opener Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for 3 runs, caught by Joshua Da Silva off the bowling of Jayden Seales.


Nishan Madushka on 2 and Kasun Rajitha on 4 remained unbeaten at stumps on day three, with Sri Lanka requiring a further 303 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
