The former OIC of the Pugoda Police was interdicted in connection with the death of a person in custody after being arrested by the Pugoda Police.
This was in accordance with a recommendation made by the Acting Inspector General of Police to the National Police Commission.
Police Media Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the relevant OIC was transferred to the Mannar Police Division.
Previously, eight persons including a Pugoda police sergeant was arrested in connection with the incident.
A 21-year-old resident of Polgaslanda was arrested on the 11 October on a drug charge. However, the suspect died after he was admitted to the Ragama Hospital due to a sudden illness developed while in the custody of the Pugoda Police.
The wife of the deceased alleged that the suspect had had died after he was assaulted by the police.
