Funeral arrangements for late Sri Lankan legendary actor Jackson Anthony announced

The body of the late Jackson Anthony, the legendary Sri Lankan actor, has been laid to public honors at Borella Jayaratne Parlour in Colombo this afternoon (09).

The beloved actor's passing has left a profound impact on the Sri Lankan arts and entertainment community, and his contributions are being remembered with respect and admiration.

Funeral arrangements for Jackson Anthony have been announced as follows:

Date: October 10th
Time: 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Location: Jayaratne Respect Home, Bauddaloka Mawatha, Colombo 08

Date: October 11th, and Thursday, October 12th
Location: The body will be placed at Jackson Anthony's home at 90/A, 58 Wanigasuriyawatta, Ragama Road, Kadawata.

The final tribute to Jackson Anthony, an indefatigable theater personality who made significant contributions to Sri Lankan stage, tele-drama, and cinema with his exceptional acting talent, will culminate with a service at the Ragama Holy Peter and Paul Church on Thursday afternoon.

The passing of Jackson Anthony marks a significant loss to the Sri Lankan arts and entertainment industry, and his legacy will continue to inspire and influence generations of artists and performers in the country.

Jackson Anthony passed away at the age of 65 following a 14-month-long treatment at Colombo's National Hospital. He had been hospitalized since an accident on July 02, 2022, and his unfortunate demise occurred while receiving care in the ICU on the morning of October 9th.

Jackson Anthony was a highly regarded figure in Sri Lankan cinema, theater, and television, earning national acclaim as the Best Actor a record sixteen times. His talent extended beyond acting, as he was known for his versatility as a director, producer, singer, screenwriter, television host, novelist, columnist, lyricist, historian, and traveler.

His journey in the film industry began in 1993, with notable early roles in films like 'Guru Gedara,' 'Chitti,' 'Ayoma,' and 'Loku Duwa.' Over the years, he established himself as a powerhouse in acting with roles in films such as 'Bawa Duka,' 'Bawa Karma,' 'Gini Awi Saha Gini Keli,' 'Aswesuma,' 'Agni Dahaya,' 'Sooriya Arana,' 'Mille Soya,' and 'R'andiya Dahara.'

Jackson Anthony also left a significant mark in Sri Lankan television with popular roles in serials like 'Palingu Manike,' 'Ella Langa Walawwa,' 'Suseema,' 'Weda Hamine,' 'Kadulla,' 'Pitagamgarayo,' and 'Akala Sandya.' He received the Best Actor award at the Sumathi Awards for his performance in the serial 'Pitagamkarayo.'

In addition to his acting prowess, Jackson Anthony directed several blockbuster Sri Lankan films, including 'Julietge Bhumikawa' (which earned him the Most Promising Director award), 'Paradeesaya,' and 'Address Na' (for which he won the Best Actor award.




His talents also extended to songwriting, with popular songs like 'Sithe Susum Niwena Gayana,' 'Desa Piya Gath kala Mata Mewenne Obe Ruwa,' 'Lade Ukula Uda,' 'Re Tharakawo,' 'Dewiyo Sithana Dewal,' and various teledrama theme songs, all serving as testament to his lyrical prowess.
