Former Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has urged the government to fulfill its election promise of removing the tax on fuel, stating that it will lead to a significant reduction in fuel prices.
He also thanked the government for continuing the relief program approved by the previous administration, which had been temporarily suspended due to the presidential election.
Wijesekera further commented, "They promised at election meetings to remove the fuel tax. According to current legal provisions, the fuel price revision must occur by the night of the 30th. A liter of diesel can be sold for Rs. 100. The electricity price revision, already prepared by Ceylon Electricity Board officials, is scheduled for October. We request the government to expedite its approval through the Public Utilities Commission."

- It’s good to see that schemes approved, allocated funds through the treasury and initiated by President @RW_SRILANKA that was stopped by the election commission during the Presidential election recommencing under President @anuradisanayake.
The fertilizer subsidy was increased from 15,000 to 25,000 and a fuel subsidy for fishermen was introduced as government policy decisions in August 2024 with the allocation of funds through the treasury.
Solar panels for religious institutes was procured in March 2024 under the Indian Credit Line and the first shipment of the panels arrived in the country in July.
All programs were put on hold by the Election Commission August.
