Woman injured in shooting over alleged relationship dispute

A woman sustained injuries and was admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital following a shooting carried out by an individual in the Wellawa area of Kurunegala.

Police noted that the shooting was carried out utilising a locally manufactured firearm.

The injured woman is 46 years old, and further reports indicate that she is currently undergoing surgery in the intensive care unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

This woman maintained an extramarital affair before going abroad, and upon returning to Sri Lanka from overseas, she discovered that the paramour was cohabiting with another woman.

Reports state that after learning about this, the woman went to the house located in the Wellawa area of Kurunegala, where her allegedly lawful husband and children reside.

The paramour, who found out about this, carried out the shooting while lying in wait near the lawful husband's house, police further said.
