The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage has generated an impressive income of Rs. 600 million by 31 July this year, thanks to a significant rise in both local and foreign tourist arrivals, according to Deputy Director Mihiran Madawala.
He stated that this marks a notable increase compared to previous years and expressed confidence that revenue will continue to grow in the coming months.
According to official statistics, approximately 110,000 local tourists and around 250,000 foreign visitors have visited the orphanage so far this year.
Authorities say the upward trend highlights Pinnawala’s increasing popularity as a key wildlife attraction in Sri Lanka and signals continued recovery in the tourism sector post-pandemic.
