A married man remains at large following the fatal assault of a 24-year-old woman in Angulana, according to police.
The victim, identified as Heshal Kawindi Silva from Waduwa, succumbed to extensive injuries after a violent confrontation.
Preliminary investigations reveal the suspect lived apart from his wife and maintained a relationship with the victim for approximately 8 months.
Authorities note the suspect struggled with severe drug addiction and allegedly influenced the victim to use substances as well, leading to her estrangement from her parents.
The incident occurred on the evening of the 26th at the Sayura flat complex.
The couple reportedly engaged in a heated argument on the concrete floor of the eighth floor in "G" block.
During the dispute, the suspect brutally attacked the woman with a broom and his hands and feet before fleeing the scene.
Police discovered the body the following afternoon after receiving reports of a woman lying on the concrete level.
A magisterial inquiry confirmed the death, noting visible bruising and discoloration across her entire body.
The remains currently lie at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for further examination.
Under the direction of Chief Inspector Jayanatha Bandara, a specialised team led by R.P.E. Chathuranga continues efforts to apprehend the suspect.
