Private tuition classes are prohibited on Wednesdays, which are now declared special government holidays, Essential Services Commissioner General Prabath Chandrakeerthi says.
The Commissioner General clarified yesterday (16) that every Wednesday serves as a holiday for government offices, including judicial services, schools, and universities. However, essential state institutions such as Health, Ports, Water Supply, Energy, and Customs are excluded from this special holiday directive.
Additionally, all state functions are suspended until further notice. The Commissioner General also requested the private sector to declare every Wednesday a holiday during this period. To support key industries, additional fuel quotas will be issued to the Tourism, Agriculture, Health, and Plantation sectors based on assessed requirements.
Regarding the remaining four working days, the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration noted that heads of state institutions and Ministry Secretaries have the authority to decide on staff management. The Secretary further cautioned that these measures could potentially impact upcoming government examinations.
