Patients receiving medicine from government hospital clinics will now receive a two-month supply in a single visit instead of the usual one-month quota.
Health Deputy Minister Hansaka Wijemuni stated that the Ministry of Health issued these instructions to relevant institutions.
This decision follows a meeting chaired by the Health Minister to manage fuel consumption given the current situation in the country.
The Deputy Minister pointed out that patients can obtain the required medicine for two months from clinics starting this week.
Hospitals with sufficient stocks can implement this system immediately, while the Ministry has initiated measures to distribute necessary supplies to hospitals currently facing shortages.
The Deputy Minister further noted that even if a patient collects two months of medication at once, they can still visit the hospital at any time in case of an emergency.
Precautions are in place to manage the supply of essential medicines amidst the fuel crisis caused by the Middle East war.
