Fake doctor linked to multiple crimes arrested

A fake doctor allegedly involved in numerous crimes remains in custody after being arrested in Polonnaruwa, according to the Polonnaruwa Divisional Crime Investigation Unit. A spokesperson for the unit stated that the suspect was apprehended near the Deepa Uyana area in Polonnaruwa last night.

Information led to the arrest of the 59-year-old suspect, who resides in the Pannala area of Kurunegala. Police investigations revealed that the individual was previously arrested for various crimes by the Borella, Kandy, Minuwangoda, and Divulapitiya police stations and spent two years in prison.

A stethoscope, medical uniform, forged identity card, and several other pieces of equipment were recovered from the possession of the fake doctor. He reportedly claimed to be a doctor serving in the labour room of the Hingurakgoda Hospital. The suspect faces production before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court today.
