An increase in rainfall is expected across the island from today (06) and over the next few days due to the influence of the intertropical convergence zone and the potential development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance near the island. The Department of Meteorology released a statement noting that showers or thundershowers may occur in most parts of the island after approximately 1:00 pm.
Rain may also occur in the Southern and Eastern provinces during the morning hours. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is possible in some places within the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-Central provinces.
Misty conditions may prevail in certain areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces during the early morning. The department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
