A 72-year-old man was taken into custody by Special Task Force (STF) officers after allegedly using a foreign-made firearm to fire shots into the air and intimidate the public at the Kudawella Fisheries Harbour.
Acting on a tip-off received by the STF Tangalle camp, officials conducted a raid at the harbor premises yesterday (05).
The suspect reportedly caused panic among those present by firing a revolver into the sky.
During the arrest, STF personnel recovered the foreign-made weapon along with several rounds of ammunition from his possession.
The individual, a resident of the Pahajjava area in Nakulugamuwa, remains under investigation as the motive behind his actions is not yet known.
Both the suspect and the seized firearm were handed over to the Tangalle Police for further legal proceedings.
