The Sri Lanka Police Headquarters says three people have died following three separate motorcycle accidents reported yesterday (27) in different parts of the island.
The accidents were reported from the police divisions of Batticaloa, Bingiriya, and Polonnaruwa.
In the Batticaloa police division, a motorcycle accident occurred yesterday evening on the Batticaloa–Thiruppanthur inter-road near an Air Force camp. The rider, who sustained serious injuries, died after being admitted to Batticaloa Hospital.
The accident occurred when the motorcycle, travelling towards Thiruppanthur, went out of control and veered off the road into a lagoon.
The deceased is a 20-year-old resident of the Batticaloa area. Police are conducting further investigations.
In the Bingiriya police division, an accident occurred yesterday afternoon on the Alupotha–Akarawatta road near Hamananapahuwa Primary School. Both the rider and pillion rider were admitted to Kuliyapitiya Hospital, where the rider later died.
The motorcycle, which was heading towards Dalupotha, lost control and collided head-on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
The deceased is a 76-year-old resident of Nagollagoda. The body has been placed at the Kuliyapitiya Hospital mortuary, and Bingiriya Police are investigating.
Meanwhile, in the Polonnaruwa police division, another accident occurred yesterday evening on the Diwulana side road when two motorcycles collided.
The motorcycle heading towards Diwulana lost control and crashed into an oncoming motorcycle.
The deceased is a 17-year-old from the Oganagama area. Polonnaruwa Police are conducting further investigations.
