Showers or thundershowers alongside strong winds will occur at times in several provinces and districts of the island today (07). The Department of Meteorology noted in a statement that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The statement further indicated that heavy falls of about 100 mm are likely at some places particularly in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Additionally, a few showers may occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.
Strong winds of about 40 to 50 kmph will blow at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, whilst fairly strong winds of about 30 to 40 kmph are expected at times over the rest of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
