Uva Province holds the highest rate of malnutrition among children under the age of five in Sri Lanka.
Consultant Nutrition Specialist at the Badulla Teaching Hospital, Dr Wasana Marasinghe, made the statement during an awareness programme and nutrition promotion walk at the hospital.
The region faces a dual burden of malnutrition, with overnutrition and unhealthy weight gain becoming increasingly prevalent. Both conditions stem primarily from a lack of public awareness regarding proper nutritional practices.
