The Department of Meteorology warned that active southwest monsoon conditions over the island may cause strong winds reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour in the Central, Northern, and North Central provinces, as well as the Ratnapura, Hambantota, and Trincomalee districts.
Additionally, the department noted that wind speeds could increase to 55 to 65 kilometres per hour in the sea areas off the coast from Kankesanthurai through Mannar to Kalpitiya, and from Matara through Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Consequently, these sea areas may become very rough at times.
