The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) initiated legal proceedings against a canteen operating inside the Colombo-Jaffna express train after officials uncovered the sale of drinking water bottles above the stipulated price.
CAA officers conducted a raid at the Anuradhapura Railway Station and found that bottles marked at Rs. 120 were being sold for Rs. 150.
Officials confirmed that legal action began against those responsible.
The CAA formally notified the Department of Railways in writing about the inconvenience caused to commuters by inflated prices in train canteens.
Authorities revealed that four similar raids recently targeted canteens inside train compartments.
