5.9 Magnitude strikes South Island, New Zealand

An earthquake of ‌magnitude 5.9 hit South ​Island, New ​Zealand on Thursday, ⁠the German ​Research Centre ​for Geosciences said.
The quake was at ​a depth ​of 53 km (32.93 ‌miles), ⁠GFZ said.

The agency earlier pegged the quake ​at ​5.6, ⁠with a depth ​of 10 ​km.
