An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit South Island, New Zealand on Thursday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences said.
The quake was at a depth of 53 km (32.93 miles), GFZ said.
The agency earlier pegged the quake at 5.6, with a depth of 10 km.
