Chartered Accountants, BASL ink special MoU

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) signed a special Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen professional relations and cooperation.

The agreement was signed at the BASL main office in Colombo, with CA Sri Lanka President Tishan Subasinghe and BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya signing the document.

This marks the first historic occasion where an official cooperation agreement was reached between the accounting and legal professions, the institutes pointed out.

According to the professional bodies, this step was taken considering that legal, financial, and regulatory matters are strongly interconnected in the current business and corporate environment and bracing the professionals for the challenging situation.

Through this MoU, plans are set to exchange professional knowledge between members of both parties, conduct joint Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, organise technical discussions, and implement capacity-building programmes.

Strengthening relations between accountants and lawyers enhances corporate governance and greatly supports the overall economic development of Sri Lanka, CA Sri Lanka President Tishan Subasinghe stated.

Such a partnership ensures high professional standards and alliance growth, BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said.
