Six individuals died in transportation incidents that occurred at several places in the country, according to the Police Media Division.
These incidents were reported yesterday within the police divisions of Thirukkovil, Gothatuwa, Wariyapola, Athurugiriya, Tissamaharama, and Chilaw.
On the Thirukkovil-Pottuvil road near Vinayagapuram 01, a three-wheeler travelling to Pottuvil went out of the driver's control, veered off the road, and crashed into a concrete post.
Five injured individuals were admitted to the Thirukkovil Hospital, where a 49-year-old female resident of Kannankuda, who had been traveling in the rear seat of the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries.
On the Pettah-Gothatuwa road near the Gothatuwa town, a bus travelling toward Pettah collided with an oncoming three-wheeler. The 37-year-old driver, a resident of Kalpitiya, died from the incident, the Police Media Division reported.
Meanwhile, on the Kurunegala-Puttalam road in the Werapola area, a car travelling toward Puttalam attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with an oncoming motorcycle.
The 67-year-old motorcycle rider, a resident of Hettipola, lost his life.
Near the 6th-kilometer post on the expressway, a lorry travelling from Kerawalapitiya toward Kottawa collided with a parked prime mover trailer due to a mechanical failure. A 21-year-old youth residing in Induwara, who was travelling in the left-hand passenger seat of the lorry, passed away according to police.
Near the 6th-kilometer post on the Tissamaharama tank bund road, a bus travelling from Debarawewa toward Kataragama struck a pedestrian crossing the road. The 38-year-old pedestrian, a resident of Badalkumbura, died while receiving treatment at the Debarawewa Hospital.
Additionally, on the Bangadeniya-Pallama road near the 5th-kilometer post, a motorcycle travelling toward Pallama went out of the rider's control, veered off the road, and plunged into a drain. A 24-year-old motorcycle rider residing in Pallama died from this incident.
