A minor flood risk exists over the next 48 hours in the low-lying areas of the Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, and Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kelani River basin, the Irrigation Department stated.
Meanwhile, two spill gates of the Canyon Reservoir were opened by six inches each, the Disaster Management Centre stated.
Accordingly, taking into consideration the water level, a need could arise to open the spill gates of the Lakshapana Reservoir as well, authorities stated.
Therefore, a request was made to the public living in the lower areas of the reservoirs and along the rivers to remain vigilant and follow the instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
