Prime Minister attends Munneswaram Kovil annual festival

Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya attended a special blessing pooja held in line with the annual festival of the historical Munneswaram Kovil in Chilaw today (23), the Prime Minister's Media Division states.


The annual festival of the historical Munneswaram Kovil situated in the Puttalam District of the North Western Province is held colorfully across a four-week period in August and September centering the month of Nikini.


In addition to tree planting, Ganadevi poojas, and special daily poojas, a large number of Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic, and Islamic devotees scattered across the island join this festival season which also includes the fire-walking festival held according to ancient rituals.


The Prime Minister who arrived at the Munneswaram Kovil premises attended the special pooja held for Lord Shiva, and the priestly panel of the kovil chanted blessings and extended blessings to the Prime Minister.


A large number of local public representatives, state officials, and local residents joined this occasion.
