Alleged underworld figure ‘Panadura Nilanga’, who was detained and interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, has been remanded until the 3rd of next month by the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Asanga S. Bodaragama, today.
The court issued this order following submissions made by the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the incident.
The suspect was brought to court today under tight security by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Presenting facts to the court regarding the incident, investigating officers stated that charges have been filed against the suspect under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for the possession of firearms.
The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the suspect was arrested in Indonesia and brought to the Katunayake International Airport on the 31st of August 2025, after which he was detained and interrogated under detention orders until today. As the detention period has expired, the Criminal Investigation Department requested the court to place the suspect in remand custody.
Taking the presented facts into consideration, the court ordered the suspect to be remanded until the 3rd of next month and adjourned the case until that date.
