Claude Guillemot, one of the five brothers who co-founded video game publisher Ubisoft, has died after his private aircraft crashed on its final approach to La Baule-Escoublac aerodrome in western France on June 19.
According to Ouest France, the Cessna 421, registered to Guillemot, departed Rennes at around 5:20pm and crashed shortly before 6:00pm near the hamlet of La Bosse, several hundred meters from the runway.
Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft drop suddenly in a steep turn before hitting the ground, igniting a fire that destroyed the plane and burned around 500 square meters of an adjacent field.
Guillemot was piloting the plane to attend a weekend gathering of aviation enthusiasts expected to host more than a hundred light aircraft.
Technical investigators from France’s Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses for Civil Aviation Safety arrived at the scene to begin reconstructing the scene.
A K-9 unit was also deployed to confirm no additional passengers were on board.
For more on the ubisoft, we have been following the confirmation that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently in development.
