Salah magic fires Egypt to historic win

Egypt advanced to the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time in their history after a stirring second-half comeback secured a 3-1 victory over New Zealand at BC Place in Vancouver. Mohamed Salah proved the difference, scoring one and creating another as the Pharaohs struck 3 times in 24 minutes to book their place in the last 32.

The All Whites capitalised on early dominance when Finn Surman headed home a Tim Payne corner after 15 minutes, leaving New Zealand dreaming of a maiden tournament victory. However, tactical adjustments by manager Hossam Hassan after the interval turned the match completely in Egypt's favour. Mostafa Zico initiated the recovery in the 58th minute, rising to meet a Mohamed Hany cross and power a header past the New Zealand goalkeeper.

Salah then took control of the tie, exchanging a sharp pass with Zico before slotting a precise finish into the bottom corner to give Egypt the lead after 67 minutes. The victory was sealed 8 minutes from time when Trezeguet met a perfectly delivered Salah corner to head home the third.

The result leaves Egypt top of Group G and on the verge of winning the group if they defeat Iran this Saturday. New Zealand, who previously squandered a lead against Iran, must now defeat Belgium to keep their qualification hopes alive.
