The newly appointed High Commissioner to Sri Lanka on behalf of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Tariq Mohamed Ariful Islam presented his credentials to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the President's House this morning.

During the ensuing discussion, the President briefed the new High Commissioner on the current economic situation in Sri Lanka and the steps taken by the government to control coronavirus.

The President also stated that his intention was to develop bilateral relations in the identified areas with regional countries, including Bangladesh.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has pointed out that there is a lot of room for the development of maritime cooperation and the new High Commissioner has stated that his country has given a high priority to maritime security.
