A soil businessman died today (15) in Kurunegala, Mawathagama, after being buried under a collapsed earth mound, according to police.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Ranasinghe Chanaka Erosion from Harankahagoda had been running a soil cutting and selling business in the Kotikapola area.

The incident occurred while he was operating a backhoe machine to cut soil. After stopping the machine and entering the soil pit, a portion of the earth collapsed, burying him.

It took around 40 minutes to remove the soil and recover his body, but the Mawathagama police confirmed that he had already died by then.
