DIG Indika Hapugoda, head of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Directorate, has announced that bus conductors are prohibited from travelling on the footboard of buses.

The DIG emphasized that legal action will be taken against conductors violating this rule, citing safety concerns. The move follows complaints that some conductors, driven by competition among bus operators, have been ignoring the risks associated with travelling on the footboard.

Authorities aim to enforce this measure strictly to ensure public safety and adherence to traffic regulations.
