The Minister made the statement at a Cabinet decision briefing today, the 12th of August. He said that the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, or TRCSL, is the country's member body of the ITU. He added that while two geostationary orbital positions have been allocated to Sri Lanka, no satellite under the name 'Sri Lanka' is currently registered in those slots.
He said that the ITU also has no record of a satellite named "Supremesat One," which was reportedly later renamed "Chinasat 12." The ITU website does not list a satellite under either of those names in Sri Lanka's allocated orbital slots.
