Lanka Sathosa has launched the sale of packaged Nadu and White Kekulu rice under the new "JathikaSathosa" brand, marking a new phase for the state-owned retail network.

The inaugural event was held yesterday (18) at the Lanka Sathosa outlet in the Narahenpita Specialized Economic Center, with the participation of Kosala Wilbawa, Chairman of the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment, and Dr. SamithaPerera, Chairman of Lanka Sathosa.

Consumers can now purchase this newly branded rice from Lanka Sathosa outlets island-wide.

The Co-operative Wholesale Establishment, which is under the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, is Sri Lanka's oldest corporation.

It was formerly a liquidated entity under the previous government.

However, the new government decided to revive it under a new name and structure.

The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality goods at fair prices and to enhance the country's food security.

Following the guidance of Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, a phased process will begin to continuously supply 23 essential food items to the market.
